Check Your Chain Length
Since you're installing a wide-range cassette, your current chain might be too short. If needed, you should add 2-6 links or use a longer chain.
For full-suspension bikes, keep in mind that the chainstay length changes as the suspension moves, so selecting the correct chain length is even more important.
Positioning the Rear Derailleur Correctly
When adjusting the chain length, the distance between the rear derailleur cage and cassette also changes. To ensure proper shifting, the derailleur cage should be positioned as shown in the diagram below. A 10-degree tolerance is allowed.
Adjusting the B-Tension Screw
The b-tension screw helps your derailleur accommodate the larger cassette cogs:
- Tightening the screw moves the upper pulley further from the cassette, increasing derailleur capacity.
- Loosening the screw decreases the distance between the upper pulley and cassette.

ACHIEVING PERFECT SHIFTING PERFORMANCE
To ensure smooth and precise shifting, the rear derailleur hanger must be straight.
🚲 Common causes of a bent hanger:
- The bike has fallen.
- The rear derailleur hit a rock or another object.
✅ How to check it?
A derailleur hanger alignment tool is available at most bike shops and can help confirm if your hanger is properly aligned.
